#61 January/February 2003 Vaccine Studies We'd Like to See- Long term studies of vaccines, using non-vaccinated control groups, assessing the statistical correlation with chronic diseases such asautism, childhood diabetes, Crohn's disease, attention deficitdisorder, and childhood arthritis.
- Before-and-after studies that test children prior to and afterimmunization, to better assess the impact on the body.
- Studies that are conducted by researchers who do not receivemonetary support from the companies that produce the vaccines.
The Fine Print: You might think that the above study designs would besensible no-brainers for your regulatory public servants, but youwould be wrong. In fact, the Institute of Medicine's protocol forverifying causality of vaccine damage consists of comparing healthproblems of recently vaccinated children to health problems inbackground control groups of already vaccinated children (notcomparisons to unvaccinated subjects). Such studies by their verydesign will never detect much long-term or chronic damage fromvaccines, because such damage can occur sooner in some individuals, and later in others. The pharmaceutical companies have followed suitin their "safety studies" of vaccines. Try finding a singlemanufacturer data sheet for any vaccine that cites a safety studyranging for more than a week or two after vaccination, and a controlgroup of unvaccinated subjects. None do. Crazy? You bet itis! --Doug Collins
