Protest Frankentrees in Portland

by the GE-Tree Conference

Please join with us in Portland, Oregon, to protest the development oftransgenic trees July 21-22. Many companies and universities havefield-tested genetically engineered trees and they are planning torelease them into the wild on a commercial scale soon.

Trees are the oldest and largest organisms on the planet. Some of themhave genomes eight times larger than the human genome. We should notalter their genomes that have developed and adapted to the environmentover millions of years.

Let us not wait until GE trees are grown commercially all over theworld. We have to let the public, the industry and the universitiesknow that we will not sit and watch until genetic pollution fromtransgenic trees covers our forests. Once the trees are released theywill contaminate surrounding forests and downstream ecosystems, andupset the ecological balance of forest communities. They cannot berecalled.

Read more on the dangers of GE trees at www.gaaget.org (Global Alliance Against Genetically Engineered Trees).

We are going to respond to a conference on transgenic trees to takeplace in Stevenson Washington (Skamania Lodge) from July 22-27. Thelodge is about an hour from Portland, in the Columbia Gorge. Go towww.gaaget.org and click on the events link.

The biotech industry needs to know we do not accept their vision ofcomplete biological domination of life.

To get involved: Contact us! Let us know if you can help. Spread thisemail. Come to Portland on July 21-22. Send us some money (we arebroke). Organize teach-ins. We are available for speaking engagementsfrom now until the conference.

Call us in Portland at: (503) 239-6841; www.gaaget.org.Or write to usat: GE-Tree Conference, PO Box 15289, Portland, OR97293.
