Vote '96: WFP's Pocket Guide

For President, progressives aren't exactly lining up behind Clinton. The Portland Alliance has made a strong case for a Ralph Nader protest vote in its August issue, arguing that both Clinton and Dole are part of the same corporate oligarchy that aims to globalize the world into a seamless marketplace. As for the one open Seattle City Council seat, progressives seem to be lining up behind David Della, former cannery union activist. In the 36th district of the State House, a Free Press founder, Mark Worth is bucking the Demo establishment by running on a platform of labor and green issues.

One subscriber wrote to us after seeing an announcement of the Seattle Bid Committee which has been formed to lobby for Seattle to be the host of the 2008 Olympics: "Why not call for a vote on this before our 'leaders' go ape?" Don't hold your breath on this one, though. The City of Seattle and the Washington State Legislature are already appearing on a list of organizations which support a Seattle Olympics.
