A Legacy of Infamy

Forty-seven officers cited for war crimes in 1993's United Nations Truth Commission Report on El Salvador were graduates of the School of the Americas. For example:

1980 - Assassination of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero. Two of three officers cited were S.O.A. grads.

1981 - Hundreds were murdered and mutilated by Salvadoran military forces in the El Mozote massacre. Ten of 12 officers cited were S.O.A. grads.

1989 - Six Jesuit priests and two women were murdered. Nineteen of 25 officers cited were S.O.A. grads.
